Life Active member and Board President Darren Harrison has volunteered with Elkins Park Fire Company for over 20 years. Having started his journey as a volunteer firefighter, Darren now primarily supports the company through administrative leadership as President of the Board of Directors.

“Volunteering has been one of the best decisions I have made in my life,” said Darren. “It’s an incredibly gratifying experience.”

Darren works as an attorney and credits his time at the station with improving his professional skills.

“Working with many different personalities who come from a variety of backgrounds has made me a better leader, and both colleagues and clients love talking about the volunteer fire service,” he said.

The rewards of service go far beyond administrative growth or the adrenaline of an emergency call. He found his “second family” at Elkins Park Fire Company.

“I love the camaraderie and could not be more proud to be a member of Station 3,” said Darren. “We come from different backgrounds, but we share common goals: serving and protecting our community. If you’re looking to grow, we’ll be right there to support you every step of the way.”

No experience is necessary to join, and there are many ways to volunteer based on community members’ interests. All training and gear are provided at no cost.

“My only regret is not volunteering sooner,” said Darren.
