Our fire company began as the Old York Road Fire Company on September 20, 1892, when public-spirited citizens organized after a fire that took the lives of an adult and several children. Organized firefighting was relatively unknown to the area at the time, so it was the first company established in Cheltenham Township.
Flash forward to today, Elkins Park Fire Company continues to strive to provide the best fire service to our community, from researching equipment to training members weekly. In addition to emergency response efforts, we host events to promote community engagement.
Our district is connected to Philadelphia on the southern edge of Cheltenham Township and Abington Township on the northern edge. Our primary response district travels east to New Second Street, and to the west, to Old York Road from Cheltenham Avenue up to Church Road, and to Washington Lane from Church Road up to Township Line Road.
Our members meet every Tuesday:
First Tuesday of Each Month: Our Company Business Meeting starts at 7:00 PM. Here, we take some time out to address administrative matters and provide an opportunity for open discussion among our members.
Every Tuesday (excluding the first of the month): Our Weekly Drill Night starts at 7:00 PM. Open to anyone! We focus on essential, introductory firefighting skills. Anyone interested in volunteering with us can get a taste of what firefighters do, and explore the skills and services you would be expected to learn.
“My grandfather was a lifelong volunteer here (63+ years), and when he passed, I wanted to support his legacy and Elkins Park Fire Company” – Lauren Walter
