Timothée Josset, also known as Tim, started volunteering at Elkins Park Fire Company four years ago. In recognition of his dedicated service, he was recently named the 2025 Firefighter of the Year, making him the sixth member to receive the award established in memory of late lifelong member Charles ‘Chubby’ Obrecht.

“I lived a couple blocks away during COVID and thought I could make a difference by volunteering,” said Tim. “I wanted to give back.”

For Tim, the journey has been one of personal growth and self-discovery.

“Volunteering makes you question yourself, reflect and improve both as a person and a firefighter,” said Tim. “I discovered my limits very quickly and it pushed me to start doing more cardio.”

Since joining the Elkins Park team, Tim has hit the ground running, earning both his Firefighter I and Driver certificates.

“If you’re looking to help, there are more ways than just fighting fire,” said Tim. “We need people to drive the trucks, assist with exterior firefighting or handle administrative tasks at the fire station.”

Volunteers receive comprehensive gear and training at no cost, with sessions held both at the fire station and the Montgomery County Fire Academy.

“The people here are passionate about you being the best you can be,” said Tim. “We have a great Chief and a team of officers who are incredible educators. They are welcoming to anyone who is willing to put in the effort.”
