Jason Sladinski’s commitment to service didn’t end with his time in the Navy or his years volunteer firefighting in Harrisburg. When he moved to Elkins Park in 2013, a “volunteers needed” banner caught his eye, inspiring him to return to the fire service.

Although Jason had previous experience, the Elkins Park Fire Company provides all volunteers with comprehensive training and gear. The company supported Jason as he completed his Firefighter I certification through the Montgomery County Fire Academy.

“It was exciting and rewarding to bring back my skills and improve upon them as a volunteer firefighter,” said Jason.

Despite a busy schedule working as a Senior UAS Safety Manager for American Water, finishing his last semester to obtain a Masters in GIS at Johns Hopkins University, and spending time with his family, Jason finds the time to volunteer.

“The fire company understands work and family come first, and we do the best we can to make as many calls as possible,” said Jason.

Having served as an Elkins Park Fire Company volunteer for over 13 years, Jason enjoys seeing the growth within the fire company.

“It’s a friendly atmosphere, but we push each other to be better,” said Jason. “It’s great to see how some of our younger members have grown, stepping into officer roles and making the company thrive.”

Residents looking to challenge themselves and learn new and exciting skills are encouraged to volunteer with Elkins Park Fire Company. To get started, fill out an inquiry form under “Join Us.”
